It is hard to imagine a time when the used car industry did not suffer the brunt of many jokes about shifty salesmen, devious sales practices and unreliable vehicles that drop their bumpers as the car is driving off the lot. While these wisecracks conjure up a hail of laughter, there is no escaping the truth that underlies the punch line. Consumers have had a longstanding love/hate relationship with used car dealers inasmuch as they can get a great price on a pre-owned vehicle, however, the less than honest disclosure about its history and present engine condition is oftentimes a much bigger financial compromise than the money saved.
