This research paper: An 8 page research paper that discusses the nursing shortage and how it relates to a similar shortage of nursing educators. In order make-up for the tremendous nursing shortage that is evidence across the country, universities and colleges are offering a greater number of accelerated baccalaureate nursing programs, according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (Martin 5). Yet despite the increasing number of such programs, shortfalls in the number of nurses needed to fill vacancies still exist. Exacerbating the problem of the nursing shortage is the fact that is also a shortage of nursing faculty. Examination of this problem shows that the first, and perhaps the most crucial step, in solving the nursing shortage is to increase the number of number of nursing faculty members in order to break a negative cycle that is powering this national healthcare crisis.
