Number of Pages 6

This research paper: This is a 6 page paper reviewing and analyzing Kozol’s 1995 book “Amazing Grace: The Lives of Children and the Conscience of a Nation”. Jonathan Kozol’s 1995 book “Amazing Grace: The Lives of Children and the Conscience of a Nation” tells the story of the lives and living conditions of families in the South Bronx, New York neighborhood of Mott Haven. Kozol believes that not only is this neighborhood one of the most impoverished and dangerous in New York but probably within the entire United States. The book is done quite often in first person narrative as the author had visited the neighborhood several times throughout the research process of the text and interviewed a number of the residents. He not only interviews the residents to document his findings but also reveals several of his own feelings which helps generate an additional impact to the plight of the situation for the reader. Critics view his work as incomplete however as he ignores several of the positive and progressive projects which have been undertaken in the area to improve situations. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
