  • Quitting the Cigarette Habit and The Role of Health Psychologists

This is a 5 page paper on the role of health psychologists in smoking cessation. The Website of the Health Psychology Associates (http://www.healthpsych.com/) addresses issues related to the research, treatments and role of health psychologists in the health care setting. One area of particular concern for health psychology is smoking. Essentially, health psychologists are concerned with the psychological and biomedical reasons for why people are addicted to smoking and have difficulty stopping and what treatment programs can be initiated to help people stop smoking. Research has found that people begin and continue smoking from a combination of social, psychological, and biological factors. In smoking cessation therapies health psychologists have found that a combination of psychological, social and biological factors are also the most effective in that patients are instructed on the use of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) in addition to the more important aspects of personal and social counseling, coping strategies, skill management and stress reduction throughout the stages of contemplation of smoking cessation through until well after action and maintenance of smoking cessation. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

  • Client Therapy and Alcohol Abuse of 3 Generations

This is a 7 page study of multi-generation alcohol abuse in relation to a client case study. The client in this case study is affected by many stress agents which have been consistent throughout her 28 years of life. The single female client still lives at home with her family in a conservative religious household which has been dominated by her overbearing father who is a second generation alcoholic within his own history. The father smokes excessively with little consideration to others in the household. The client who is affected by second hand smoke nevertheless smokes marijuana herself and in a sense is the third generation of substance abuse. The family home remains cluttered and although they are aware of their daughter’s problems handling the home environment and her stress levels, they are not likely to change their situation. • Literature Review on Stress Agents

7 pages in length. The writer discusses stress agents as they relate to second- hand smoke adolescent marijuana use; unemployment (women); alcoholism in fathers; and excessive clutter. Bibliography lists 11 sources.

  • 3 Substance Types and Their Effects

3 pages in length. As the top three most abused drugs, cocaine, marijuana and heroin also share some of the same physiological effects. Marijuana is considered to be much more user controllable than cocaine or heroin, both of which are highly addictive substances; because brain impact occurs quite rapidly when cocaine is smoked in its crack form, it becomes that much more addictive.
