ESSAY ON: Shakespeare’s View of Father/Daughter Relationships

Number of Pages 6

This research paper: A 6 page essay that discusses the way in which Shakespeare portrays father/daughter relationships. Generally speaking, these relationships can be characterized as loving, with the father taking an appropriate attitude toward his daughter. However, in understanding this relationship within the cultural context of Shakespeare’s era, the Elizabethan perspective on gender roles and the manner in which patriarchy was regarded needs to be considered as this was a integral factor in the way the father/daughter relationship was understood at this point in history. Examination of “King Lear” and “As You Like It” indicates how a father/daughter relationship is a crucial component of each play. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
