This research paper: This is a 7 page paper discussing the four “dark ages” in Europe. Europe underwent in essence four dark ages from 1200-700 BCE in Greece, 250-500 CE in Rome, the 9th and 10th centuries in Europe and again in the 14th century in Europe. All of these periods are denoted by their political, cultural, religious and social declines during the presence of increased warfare, decreased economy and sometimes plague or famine. Regardless of these dark eras, they showed creative activity which led the way to Renaissance. Homer’s poems were developed during the dark Greek ages and the centralization and establishment of the Christian religion took place during the end of the Roman period into the time of Charlemagne’s campaigns in 9th century Europe. The plagues and wars which shook Europe in the 14th century saw the development of humanism and a new creativity which was independent from the Church and new ideas were based on the strength of politics and man. Bibliography lists 9 sources.
