This research paper: (7 pp.) Did you read the title and think that this was an oxymoron? Did women have identities in the year Defoe's novel was published? Certainly they could not have overt identities, that is for sure; however Defoe is able to provide them for Moll in the relationship she has with her clothes and her money. If we look at Defoe's life, many of his experiences parallel Moll's, or is the other way around?
