This research paper: A 9 page paper arguing that the use of Anesthesia Assistants is detrimental to the profession of nursing. Nurse Anesthesia Assistants are registered nurses (RNs) trained to certificate level, technologists that have greater understanding of the process of anesthesia than RNs without the certificate training but without the specialized knowledge that anesthesiologists or certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) hold. Though it can be valuable to have an assistant present who has more knowledge in anesthesia than most other nurses present in the operating room, the very existence of the classification is detrimental to the profession of nursing.
