This research paper: This 6 page report discusses Brian Ward’s 1998 book that looks at forty years of Black music in America and the ways in which its development paralleled that of the political and civil rights movements of the times. Ward makes the point that it was Rhythm and Blues that became the first musical genre to successfully permeate white American culture. As a cultural historian, Ward is able to eloquently present a number of fascinating correlations between white admiration for black music (and culture) and how it related to and still relates to racial inequalities. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
