ESSAY ON: Is Hedonism The Basis For The Best Life?

Number of Pages 3

This research paper: 3 pages in length. Hedonism, while inherent to the fundamental nature of human beings, leaves out the concept of goodwill and, therefore, cannot be considered the basis for the best life. The wholly myopic approach to life through the hedonistic lens illustrates man's constant preoccupation with his own desires, often to the great detriment of the world around him. Given the philosophical definition of hedonism - "The ethical doctrine holding that only what is pleasant or has pleasant consequences is intrinsically good" (Editors, 2000) - there is no room left for the reality of pain and suffering in one's existence; to only experience pleasure without the equalizing element of struggle is to live only half a life. Instead of being the basis for the best life, hedonism is actually the conduit to a life fractured by falsehood. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
