ESSAY ON: Explicit Memory Under General Anesthesia

Number of Pages 6

This research paper: A 6 page research paper that offers a literature review on the incidence of explicit memory awareness during general anesthesia. Prior to the advent of anesthesia, the excruciating pain involved in surgery put patients into a state of shock that often proved fatal. In a small, rare number of cases, for reasons that remain obscure despite numerous studies, some patients do not fall into an oblivious state of unconsciousness. Sometimes they are aware of their surroundings, and sometimes they are even aware of experiencing pain. This review of literature on this topic shows that, despite the vast empirical research that has been done on this topic, there is still much that needs to be discerned. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
