ESSAY ON: Frankenstein/Symbolic of Women's Fate

Number of Pages 8

This research paper: An 8 page essay that discusses the Monster as a symbol of the fate of women in Victorian society. The writer argues that the way in which Shelley presents Victor Frankenstein's experimentation suggests a sexual ethos and a desire to establish dominance over nature in much the same way that male identity was predicated on maintaining dominance over women. Secondly, the creature's subjugated position in society and the manner in which he has to teach himself mirrors the way in which women had to struggle to obtain any sort of education, as the society of that period disparaged the ability of women to learn beyond a certain level.
