This research paper: This 18 page paper considers the impact that disasters can have on those who are directly and indirectly involved, including those remote to the disaster seeing it through the media. This paper examines four recent research articles that examine the way in which stress and anxiety including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) emerge in different section of the population. The first article looks at those who were directly effected by the September the 11th terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, the second article considers the impact of those remote to the disaster. The third article looks at the psychological adaptation of mothers where their children have been involved in a disaster, and the last considers survivors of an earth quake. These all indicate that new ways of dealing with disasters need to be develop, which are not limited to the PTSD approach. The bibliography cites 4 sources.
