Application of Montessori Mathematics to Children Between the Ages of Three and Six
This 8 page paper discusses how Montessori mathematics takes the young child from concrete learning to abstract thinking in mathematics. The essay begins with Montessori's beliefs about the child under the age of 6, the materials presented to children and, in general, how the materials help the child make this transition. The principles for the materials are outlined. Two lesson plans are included: one that moves the child from concrete rods to understanding of the numerals and the other is the introduction of fractions. Additional comments further clarify how the Montessori materials help children make the all-important transition from the concrete to the abstract. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
Why Psychology Is Considered A Science
6 pages in length. The evolution of psychology emerging as a science stemmed from the concept of behaviorism and what motivated conduct in certain situations. Was humanity merely bound by determinism without the ability to choose, or did he harbor free will with which to guide his own existence? These ponderings ultimately gave way to a more concrete concept termed cognitive science from which the basis of psychology inevitably developed. Bibliography lists xox sources.
'The Temple' Poem by George Herbert
A 2 page analysis of the significance of the title 'The Temple,' which Herbert used for his collection of ecclesiastical poetry. The writer argues that Herbert constructs his 'temple,' not with mortar and stone, but with words‹metaphor, simile and rhyme. Yet, his construction is just as concrete as any that has survived the centuries‹as well as being very revealing, as it shows the reader the core of seventeenth-century Christian belief.
