This research paper: A 5 page paper examining the minor women in Kate Chopin’s late work. Madame Lebrun is not “invisible” but is diminished in significance through her “impertinence” and failure to see others accurately. Young black women in the employ of white or Creole women are just invisible, to the point that Chopin does not even name them. Madame Antoine is not totally invisible in the manner of the others, but Edna accepts her thoughtfulness without a glimmer of gratitude. It appears that Chopin’s own experiences and society as it existed at the end of the 19th century when Chopin was writing colored her own view and use of women of color. Bibliography lists 1 source.
