ESSAY ON: Post-Materialism In Western European Politics

Number of Pages 5

This research paper: 5 pages in length. Individualism and the quest for material possessions defined the era of materialism in Western Europe. Interpreting individualism as a means by which to illustrate how society had lost its compassion for all others was a simple matter of applying social responsibility: an awareness of the impacts one's actions have upon the rest of society. Far too many people believed it was their inherent right as human beings to exercise whatever choices they saw fit, despite the fact that their selfish actions may have caused harm or damage to others. Indeed, this is the essence of social responsibility: to make a conscious effort to incorporate society's feelings, as a whole, rather than merely focusing upon the singular desires of oneself. Adopting social responsibility is precisely what Western European politics reflected when the timeline moved forward into Post-Materialism and people began to focus less on material gain and more on social good. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
