This research paper: This 8 page report discusses Karol Syzamowski (1882-1937), the Polish composer second only to Chopin in renown. Szymanowski was “a curious hybrid.” Considering the fact that his life spanned Poland's fin de-siecle rekindling and its all-too brief flourishing between the wars, it is remarkable that the music of Szymanskowski was able to survive to earn a meaningful level of respect at the close of the 20th century. The survival and proliferation of the composer’s work serve as a testimony to the collective determination of the Polish people to maintain a distinct culture of art, music, literature, and more. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
