This research paper: A 6 page overview of the influence of the French Revolution of the art of the time. Several of Jacques-Louis David’s paintings (including “The Tennis Court Oath”, “The Oath of Horatii”, and “Napoleon at the Pass at St. Bernard” are analyzed in terms of their depiction of historical circumstances. The conclusion is reached that David considered commoners heroes alongside famous generals like Napoleon. His art was not always a true reflection of historical circumstance, however, but rather a reflection of his ideologies and beliefs. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
