In business and in reality, the bottom line is nearly all-important in the business environment of today that is approaching a hyper-competitive state. The lessons from TQM and BPR that apply to IS are that IS must be an asset in contributing to the organization's efforts to enhance and then maintain its competitive advantage, and that there are varied organizational, management and technological factors associated the IS as an agent of business strategy that cannot be ignored. Change is integral to both TQM and BPR, and change is one of the most difficult accommodations that IS can make for the organization. Nonetheless, meaningful and useful change must be managed and allowed to occur. Bibliography lists 18 sources.
