This research paper: A 10 page paper discussing Hamel and Prahalad’s 1989 article in the Harvard Business Review, then assessing Southwest Airlines, Nike and Dell Computer for evidence of exercising strategic intent as defined by Hamel and Prahalad (1989). Though these companies do not exhibit strategic intent to equal degrees, each has distinguished itself from its competitors and essentially rewritten industry-specific “rules” that existed at the time that the companies were founded. The result for each has been achieving true and stable industry leadership positions. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
