This research paper: 5 pages in length. The tremendous need for therapeutic soft contact lenses finally brought about the first of its type in the early 1970s when the FDA approved its limited use in humans. Interestingly, this first prototype proved a better optical tool for veterinary use than its intended bipedal population. The most important use for these initial therapeutic soft contact lenses – also called bandage lenses – was to treat corneal ulcers; since that time more than thirty years ago, TSCLs have been proven to address such areas as cornea protection, pain relief and healing enhancement. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
