This research paper: A 4 page paper discussing the growing trend toward naming nurses in malpractice claims, reviewing current literature on the subject and making recommendations for the future. It is a common view that greater numbers can be attracted with higher salaries, and that appears to be true to a point. Beyond that point, however, other factors take on greater weight. There is no mystery in what those other factors are; Maslow defined them quite well and clearly nearly 40 years ago. Providing security and meeting basic needs is only the first step. Beyond that is a sense of belonging and ultimately self-actualization. As nursing continues to evolve, current leaders need to be working for greater possibilities for self-actualization in nursing. Doing so can lead to better patient outcomes in the present, while also making nursing more attractive to those not already in the profession. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
