Research has made a particularly pertinent connection between the onset of borderline personality disorder (BPD) in people who suffered sexual abuse as children; with females reflecting the vast majority of those who experience sexual abuse (Fergusson et al, 1996), this fact equates to women displaying a greater propensity toward BPD.
