This research paper: A 6 page paper discussing the four primary functions of management – Planning, Organizing, Leading and Controlling – in both their historic meanings and as they are applied to the learning organization. Management of the future has an appearance that looks far more like people working together for a common set of goals. Leadership was not always a requirement of management in the past, but it gains increasing importance with each passing year as poor substitutes increasing are found to be inadequate. It is in this vein that at least one of the labels of the four functions of management, controlling, carries a negative connotation. This is not the controlling that Henry Ford practiced, but rather is sound management of the organization in which people are free to be creative and innovative. Bibliography lists 9 sources.
