ESSAY ON: New York City And Political Machines: Corruptive Effects

Number of Pages 14

This research paper: 14 pages in length. American politics had been on such a roll since the Jeffersonian era that it only seemed appropriate -- to the politicians, at least -- that the concept of political machines be utilized to aid those needing financial campaign support. Through these machines, local, state and national parties were able to collect such support through civil service assessments, financiers, public banquets, delegate taxes, meeting fees and private contributions. One of the most questionable tactics of these political machines, however, was the manner in which the politicians took advantage of immigrant workers. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
