This research paper: 5 pages in length. A patriarchal society depicts women as lacking something, a point that is made perfectly clear by perusing the commonplace advertisements – print, radio, billboards and television – that openly imply women are in need of surgical alteration: eyes, breasts, thighs or protruding stomach. Clearly, the overall effect created by the recurrence of messages like this is that women's bodies -- and, thereby, their entire mental, emotional and physical selves -- are not good enough until they have been enhanced by technological advancements. By contrast, when men are put into a situation of having their bodies "improved," pampered or added to, the kinds of anxieties raised pertain almost solely to their sexual worthiness. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
