This research paper: A 12 page research paper that investigates this issue. There has been a dramatic increase in recent decades in interfaith marriages. Historically, Catholicism and Judaism have taken the strictest position against adherents to these faiths marrying outsiders to their beliefs. An examination of the rationales behind each of these positions shows that the reasons why leaders in each faith have traditionally opposed intermarriage are remarkably similar. Furthermore, the current situation in regards to the effects of interfaith marriage on Judaism, as practiced in the US, shows that there is legitimacy to the traditional position, which opposes interfaith marriage. This discussion explores the historical and contemporary data on intermarriage between Jews and Catholics and then speculates on future ramifications of current trends. Bibliography list 25 sources.
