ESSAY ON: Pope John Paul II's Political Influence In Eastern Europe

Number of Pages 15

This research paper: A 15 page paper looking at John Paul's entire papacy, but focusing on his role in the fall of communism in Eastern Europe. There is an old saying among Christians admonishing them not to be so heavenly-minded that they're no earthly good. Pope John Paul lives the exhortation, and without risk of failing to be of any 'earthly good.' To say that Pope John Paul II was 'instrumental' in the fall of communism in Eastern Europe is far more than simple understatement. Though the US was involved at the level of Ronald Reagan and William Casey, it was John Paul II who determined which course of action would be taken in Poland when there was disagreement over the best ways to support Solidarity while it was illegal. A committed anticommunist, John Paul caused the entire Catholic community to be supportive of the work of Solidarity in Poland. Bibliography lists 10 sources.
