ESSAY ON: Chekhov And Oates: "The Lady With The Pet Dog" - Comparing The Two Protagonists

Number of Pages 3

This research paper: 3 pages in length. Gender perspective serves as the defining difference between Joyce Carol Oates and Anton Chekhov's respective versions of The Lady With the Pet Dog. While two couples in love represent the common denominator shared by both stories, the image of gender weakness is a decidedly blatant and undermining attribute of Oates' female character. Moreover, the way in which the authors describe her comes from two entirely different perspectives, with Chekhov regarding her as proud, dignified and lovely, while Oates can only focus upon her overall shortcomings when giving literary life to her protagonist. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
