ESSAY ON: Malcolm X / Biographical Books vs. Biographical Movie

Number of Pages 10

This research paper: A 10 page paper comparing The Autobiography of Malcolm X, as told to Alex Haley with the Spike Lee movie 'Malcolm X,' released in 1992 and based on Haley's account of Malcolm X's life and political activities. Malcolm X underwent a great change in his thinking during the last year of his life, the year in which Haley's book was published (1965), but most of his political activity was public—and highly militant—long before he discovered the broader implications of the Islam to which he was so committed. As described in this paper, the movie is true to the book overall, but relies more on the negatives of racism than it does on tracing Malcolm X's evolution. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
