This research paper: When Sam Walton started Wal-Mart and up through his death in 1992, his employees were happy. They felt part of Sam’s team, despite low wages, but most of this was due to Sam’s treatment of employees, which was exceptional for its time. Little personal touches once defined the psychological contract between Wal-Mart and its employees. That has all changed and what is needed is a return to the original contract.
